Whereas it is estimated that the number of Canadians living with dementia will increase 66% over the next 15 years; and
Whereas the number of seniors needing care in their homes will double in the next 30 years; and nearly 3 in 10 Canadians are caregivers; and
Whereas investment in non-profit organizations like the VON to provide health care services and community supports decrease health care costs; supports independence in the home and significantly reduces a person’s need for costly visits to Emergency Departments, admission and re-admission to hospital and admission to long term care facilities; and
Whereas the complexity of the work and acuity of care has increased and a significant wage disparity between community and hospital support workers exists; it has become more difficult to recruit home care providers; therefore
Be It Resolved that an Ontario NDP government would provide the necessary funding to ensure the effective and accessible availability of quality home care and will continue to advocate for government funding to meet person-centred in-home services in our communities.
