In this edition of the Bruce Grey Owen Sound Newsletter we talk about climate change and the NDP’s ‘New Deal for People’ …
  • Chris Stevens, our candidate in October, talks about the things he’s committed to work on if he’s elected, because “the cost to Canadians – of poor paying jobs and a climate in crisis – is too high.”
  • Our President Matt Trowbridge makes the link between inequality and climate change: “Global warming is all about inequality, both in who will suffer most its effects and in who created the problem in the first place.”
  • BGOS NDP Executive member and former Globe & Mail columnist Michael Valpy parses the polls and finds people are worried about climate crisis and inequality. “Since 1980, the bottom 90 per cent of the working-age population has had no real income gains while the earnings of the top 0.1 per cent have increased on average by 500 per cent.”
  • Karen Gventer, our candidate in the Provincial election, looks at the NDP’s Ontario and federal climate policies: “instead of giving billions in subsidies to huge oil and gas companies, we’ll invest in a future where Canadians have good jobs, clean air and water.”
  • David McLaren, BGOS NDP candidate in 2015, provides some independent research that links inequality with climate change. As the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit might put it: “health improves with income. If you can afford to beat the heat, you’re already healthier.”

I planted some kind of grass everyday. I heard I am not even supposed to dig deep to plant it. Some would just scatter its leaves on the ground and it will spread by itself. Some of us are like that. Some can easily grow anywhere you situate them. Some would die easily the moment you pluck them out from where they first appeared. It doesn't matter which one is which. Some grass will always end up useful and some unwanted. One thing never changes. It will always be green. That nothing can change and no one is also interested in trying.
