Over the last year the BGOS NDY has more than doubled its membership. Initiatives like the Jagmeet day of action and the Georgian outreach day in September brought in the bulk of these members. This allowed the BGOS NDY to be the largest NDP contingent at last year’s Ontario model parliament. The youth mobilized during the election campaign and were instrumental in making sure canvassing happened. In the coming year the BGOS NDY hopes to recruit new members with another outreach at Georgian college in the fall and through youth centered events like the youth debate organized with our counterparts in other local parties. The youth will be aiding the labour council in the planning of the September labour day parade as well as well as participating in it. The BGOS NDY hopes to expand our capabilities by running fundraising events in the near future. Our main goal over the next year though is to lay the ground work, in conjunction with the executive, to put a Bruce Grey Owen Sound NDP MP in parliament in 2019.

On February 2, 2018, ONDY members from BGOS were the largest contingent of the NDP caucus at a model parliament, held at Queen’s Park. I am proud of our youth in two different ways. First, from a global perspective, Michael Johnston built our riding youth organization from nothing to being a very active and effective group within less than two years. This is the reason we had 7 out of the 17-person caucus. Second, on a personal note, my daughter participated in the model parliament. “The model parliament was a good learning experience, and it was a lot of fun,” said my daughter. “(Our) members were very effective at keeping the Ontario liberal government accountable for closing public schools, public-private partnerships and hallway medicine. If these students represent even a fraction of the good work that their adult counterparts plan to do in an NDP government, then come June, Ontario is in good hands. Remember folks just Keep Calm and Vote NDP,” said Michael Johnston ~ Karen Gventer NDP Candidate On May 12th 2017, six Young New Democrats met to discuss Socialist values and obstacles youth have to overcome living in Bruce and Grey Counties. On July 19th 2017, we voted to bring forward a constitution and we became Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound New Democratic Youth. on July 23rd 2017, Ontario's New Democratic Youth (ONDY) voted to ratify our constitution making us an official ONDY Chapter. Over the last eight months we have participated in the Labour Day March in Port Elgin, a Day of Outreach at Georgian College and the Meet Jagmeet Day of Action Right across the riding. we have participated in riding association meetings, South West and Provincial Council meetings, Labour Council meetings and the Ontario NDP's Convention. we have worked hard and grown our group to more than 15 active members and for the last event of the year we will be having an Annual General Meeting / Christmas Party. this will be a good time to relax before the year ends and to come together to plan for the future. The Young Democratic Socialist Movement is alive and well in Bruce Grey and will Continue to grow.
At our 1st AGM we will elect our youth executive. Our Keynote Speaker David Trumble from the Grey Bruce Labour Council will talk about the importance of youth in the labour movement.
