ELECTION NIGHT!
Thursday October 6th!

Watch the election with Paul Johnstone, your NDP candidate for Bruce-Grey Owen Sound.
Everyone is invited to support Paul and watch the election in the OPSEU Board Room (upstairs) in the BDO Building.

Hope to see you there!

Candidates need to have a local jobs plan.
Here is ours...

We can save 100 jobs today by keeping the local jails open. This will keep a much needed $6 million in payroll in the local economy of Grey-Bruce. It will help every small business in the area. It will save the government possibly $10 million in costs associated with the closure of these two facilities. The time for studies and reviews is over. We need to reverse this bad decision.

Second, expand post secondary opportunities in our community. We need to expand both the college and university level. Orillia has a brilliant satellite university campus right downtown - why can't Owen Sound do this? What about a medical school branch campus, that specializes in researching and treating diseases affecting the elderly? What a benefit this would be to all businesses and taxpayers of Grey Bruce. Not to mention the added service provided for the senior population.

Third, convert the existing PPG site or another industrial site into a solar panel manufacturer, to create green jobs. We need to move on from the economy of the 20th century to the 21st.

Fourth, improve our transportation links. Highway 10 from Shelburne and Hwy 26 are totally inadequate for the traffic to our region. Highway 6 from Springmount to Hepworth is dangerously busy year round and especially in the summer. No other region in the province is so poorly served by transportation links. All of these roads need a major rebuild. We need better links to the 400 series highways and major airports if business and industry is to thrive.

Fifth, support local agricultural producers through a Buy Ontario policy. Governments can lead the way. All our provincially funded institutions, hospitals, jails, and other institutions need to buy Ontario grown food. We also need to promote the Grey-Bruce brand for beef, apples, dairy products, and a host of other good things we grow and raise here.
